“Merci Maman” (“Thank you, Mum”) is a deeply personal tribute the artist dedicates to his mother. It symbolises maternal love, tenderness and the strength of a woman who was always present, even in the most difficult moments of his life. The artist drew on his own story: he chose to depict himself as a baby, carried and protected by his mother. Through this intimate scene, he expresses his gratitude to the one who supported, raised and encouraged him despite hardship. The bright colours and recycled materials reflect both the warmth of the home and the harshness of everyday life. The bucket, the cloth and the objects of the setting recall the simplicity and dignity of African mothers. “Merci Maman” is thus a cry from the heart, a celebration of life, courage and unconditional love.
